Director’s Letter
8/20/10
Dear TC Volleyballers,
A few weeks ago someone told me we need to get going with club volleyball, I thought, what!? It felt like we just ended, Reno and the Nationals seem like last week, and school hasn’t even started. Club already? Yep. To begin, I’d like to say hi, I’m Blair Wickstrom, your new Treasure Coast Volleyball club director.
Stephanie Skidmore did a fantastic job as Director last year, and I want to thank her for her contributions to the club. But, she’s not going too far, except for handing off the reins to me, she’ll remain on the board as well as sticking around to coach our 13’s team. Being a college coach it’ll be great to have her teaching the correct fundamentals to our younger players.
I, like most of you reading this, have a daughter getting ready for the school season. It should be a fantastic year for all of our local middle school and high school teams. In the wake of two state championships there will probably be even more interest than ever for club volleyball. I heard Jensen Beach High School has 40 kids in their program this year. Those are football numbers for most high schools these days.
It’s good to be part of something exciting, whether it’s a sport or not, if you can get your child involved in an activity that makes them proud to be part of it, where people recognize them, and talk about them in their local community, you’ve got something special. Volleyball on the Treasure Coast is indeed special, and we owe a lot of that to the recently retired Martin County High School volleyball coach, and former TCVB Director, Marty Bielicki. Thanks Marty.
This will be my tenth year involved with TCVB; I’ve coached, and been on the board, more than half of that time. I’m proud to say the club has never been better. We’re more organized, we’ve got great coaches and the staff, that works behind the scenes, is doing more and more every year to improve the deliverables of the club. And if you don’t believe me, look over the results of our reader survey. I’ve got a copy of the results, come on by my office if you’d like to see them.
How could I not be excited about club volleyball, like I said, it’s HOT. And if you’re considering having your daughter play for TC this year we’re going to have possibly the best group of coaches we’ve ever had. Unlike in the past, we’ll be posting the coaches and their teams prior to tryouts. Stay tuned.
Like Bocephus says on Monday Night, “Are you READY for some VOLLEYBALL!”
Bump, Set, Spike,
Blair Wickstrom
TCVB Club Director
